Hello Everyone,

Since I'm new to the Linux community, I've been experimenting with various distributions to see which one best meets my daily usage and development needs. I've used Ubuntu for a while, but I'm interested in learning about different versions that might work better for my needs.

Here is some background on how I have used it:

  • Programming: Node.js, Python, & Ruby are my main tools for web programming, while I also sporadically work on mobile app development. I require a reliable environment that supports a variety of IDEs and editor software and has an excellent package manager.
  • Beyond development, I use my laptop for regular things like emailing, browsing, and basic productivity (viewing videos, creating documents, etc.). A distribution that provides an intuitive user interface without compromising speed is what I'd prefer.
  • Hardware: Performance is crucial for my affordable laptop (Intel i5, 8GB RAM, SSD), but I don't need something incredibly light.

Although I've heard amazing things about distribution like Fedora, Arch, & Manjaro, I'm not sure if I should use them.

I would be interested in knowing your thoughts on:

  • Which Linux distribution would offer an easy-to-use interface along with a good mix of development tools?
  • When deciding between a more stable deployment model and a rolling release, what factors should I take into account?
  • Any advice on how to best optimise my setup for everyday use and generative ai development?

Thank you in advance.
