Mam problem z podłączeniem się do neta. Wcześniej neta miałem, ale postanowiłem na nowo system postawić i po tym zabiegu już nie mogę odpalić neta. Siedzę nad tym od rana i już mi się pomysły skończyły.
Jestem laikiem więc być może chodzi o jakąś drobnostkę.

ifconfig wypluwa mi ip localhosta.

Jak mniemam łączyłeś się z siecią przewodowo, tak?

Dobrze byłoby gdybyś jednak podzielił się wynikiem polecenia:
ifconfig
Poza tym przydałyby się informacje na temat urządzeń PCI:
lspci -nn -k
i ewentualnie USB:
lsusb
Dodatkowo możesz podać informacje na temat załadowanych modułów jądra:
lsmod
oraz jego wersję:
uname -r
Pomocne może okazać się także:
dmesg
Być może musisz zainstalować jakiś sterownik/firmware, ale bez powyższych informacji ciężko będzie cokolwiek stwierdzić.

Na koniec drobna uwaga - rozszerzone wsparcie (Extended Life Cycle) dla RHEL 3 kończy się w tym miesiącu. Wypadałoby już przygotować się do migracji na nowszą wersję lub inny system.

Tak, przewodowo. Przez router (jeśli to ma jakieś znaczenie).

Na koniec drobna uwaga - rozszerzone wsparcie (Extended Life Cycle) dla RHEL 3 kończy się w tym miesiącu. Wypadałoby już przygotować się do migracji na nowszą wersję lub inny system.
Jak na razie to raczej w testach szkoleniowych więc nie śpieszno mi do migracji aż tak bardzo.

System nie widzi w ogóle żadnego interfejsu sieciowego oprócz oczywiście Loopback.

Z powyższego wynika, że komputer wyposażony jest w kartę sieciową 82546GB Gigabit Ethernet Controller.
Sterowniki do niego można pobrać ze strony Intela.
Najnowszy wersja to 8.0.35.
Źródła są także dostępne na stronie stronie projektu e1000 (Intel Ethernet Drivers and Utilities) na sf.net.

Instalacja powinna przebiegać mniej więcej tak:
tar zxvf e1000-8.0.35.tar.gz
cd e1000-8.0.35/src/
make
su -c "make install"
Po instalacji może zajść konieczność załadowania modułu jądra:
modprobe e1000
Jeśli wszystko się powiedzieć to ifconfig powinien pokazywać nowy interfejs sieciowy (prawdopodobnie eth0).

Jak będziesz w okolicy to upomnij się o duże zimne piwo :)
Swoją drogą też dzięki za instrukcję "krok po kroku", bo bez tego pewnie bym o wiele więcej czasu zmarnował.
